Welcome to Bri's guide to help you make your character! This guide will work for any character type: Tidewater student, staff, Beaumont student, other, any character!
Step 1: Chose a Song: Whenever I start my character I think of a song that will describe them, whether it's their personality or back story. I usually get a lot of inspiration from music and what's most important is that you can use the song lyrics to organize and add some spice to your character page, even if the song you choose is upbeat, the way you make the font look can really impact how it's read. A good example of this is located here, though the song is a bit sad and doesn't tell the characters story, it helps show how she see's the world and it high lights the pain of her past. Something fun that I like to do is put the music video of the song at the bottom of the character thread for anyone to listen to if they want.
Step 2: Choosing the Play By: In our forum we use celebrities and models as the faces for our characters. Though you can write a description of your character, it's a lot nicer to see the pictures. You can do Google searches using the terms female model, male model, actress, actor, unknown actor, the search terms are only as limited as what you can come up with. Just make sure that no one else is using your play by, do this by going to our 'Claims' section and looking at what play by's have been used and while you're at it, check to see what songs have or haven't been used. We keep these lists as up to date as possible.
Step 3: Choosing Pictures: Once you find your play by it's time to find some pictures. Please keep it appropriate! No complete nudity, lingerie is okay (sometimes it's hard to find a play by who ISN'T wearing only lingerie) but please keep good judgement. When choosing a picture please stay away from pictures that are way too big, way too small, and are of bad quality. We wan't to see your characters pretty face and it's hard to do that when you can't see them clearly! Also you can use animated GIF's in order to show more of your characters personality. A character with good pictures and good GIF's is located here.
Step 4 (or any step): Choosing a Name: Characters can have similar names, but try not to copy any other names exactly, just look through the character lists in order to make sure you aren't copying anyone else's. You need a first and last name.
Step 5: Creating a Personality: The way that I write my personality is in a paragraph form, but you can also take personality traits and describe how they pertain to your character. An example of a paragraph style personality is here and an example of a list personality is located here (towards the bottom). If you need help creating a personality, there are several different generators available. Here, Here, or Here.
Step 6: Crafting the History: This is the most fun part of building your character (I think). Here you can talk about how your character has grown up and/or describe a significant event in their life that helps explain how they are. This can be challenging, don't be too crazy though and try not to copy any one else's back story. Coincidences happen, but please try to be unique, not all characters can be adopted by super wealthy people or have a super tragic backstory or overly perfect one, but in the end just do what feels right, we don't want to stifle your creativity, just try to keep yourself in check. Some interesting backstories are here, here, and here.
Step 7: Adding in Extras: This is optional too, but these are details that you can add to your character in order to spice up their persona and making them more fun.
Step 8: Press that Create Thread Button and Cry from Joy: You're done! Congratulations! It's time for you to find someone to role play with, you can send someone a message or look at our thread about finding a character to role play with.
Now just because I laid it out a certain way doesn't mean you have to do it exactly, this is just the process that I go through in order to make my characters.
